Learn to Make a Successful Truffle -
Whenever I am feeling miserable, lonely, depressed or if I am having a bad day, and let's face it - even on good days, I escape to my kitchen. On those especially bad days I need to create something that will challenge me, make me think, concentrate, and take my cooking/baking skills to another level. Some days I can get away with just making cookies, but on one particular day when I was blue, I decided to spend the day by myself and master the chocolate truffle (recipe from my baking book). I have tried before to no success to make truffles before and could never get it to form or shape right. It takes patience to deal with chocolate and time as well as persistence. It also takes good chocolate. It took about four hours to get it right, but master the art I did (okay, so they won't be selling at the bakery anytime soon, but they were delicious!!!). I even took notes for next time.
Learn to make cheese balls -
Not as hard a task as I thought. Months ago I bought a book on themed parties and entertaining. One of the parties included recipes for cheese logs and cheese balls, so for Thanksgiving this year, I made one with pecans. I have to work on the roundness of it, but it tasted good.
