#50 - Go to Las Vegas

Viva Las Vegas!

I almost cried when Hyatt sold the Lake Las Vegas property - how was I ever going to get there to see Sin City? Good thing I have a fabulous brother in law who happened to get a job there (working for the Cirque) and so I went to visit Brooke and Bryan for my birthday in October. Three days in the big city. I flew out after working 14 days in a row and right after two weddings and a bar mitzvah. I treated myself to a glass of wine and slept the entire trip.

Day 1 - My birthday. Brooke, Bryan and I spent the morning at a shopping center near their house, just browsing and buying chocolate. Then both had to go to work, so I went with Bryan to the strip so I could walk around all the hotels. I started at Treasure Island and worked my way over to the Wynn, the Venetian, the Mirage, and Caesar's Palace. I also managed to make my way around the Fashion Mall and the Forum Shops - the Wynn and Venetian are my favorite. Met up with B and B again for dinner where we went to Bahama Breeze. I had some delicious tilipia with a mound of sweet mashed potatoes. We headed to Fremont Street for the experience. Then came home to birthday cake and ice cream.

Day 2 - Red Rock Canyon for hiking. I thought it was great, but I would miss the trees. I loved all the signs warning you to be careful of snakes and other poisionous reptiles by not lifting or putting your hands underneath rocks, but didn't really tell you what to do should you encounter one. Night rolled by and we went to Paris for the buffet (which was fantastic)!!! We experienced the fountains at the Belliago, the Pirates at Treasure Island (a little lamo) and other nighttime Vegas treasures.

Day 3 - Visited the Vegas sign with the pups to take pictures. Spent the morning wandering the other side of the Strip - the Luxor, MGM, Mandalay, and the number one thing I have wanted to do since I was a freshman in college - took a gondala ride at the Venetian. That night we went to dinner in New York. Then we watched Zumanity - from the lighting booth (I love my brother-in-law's job). It was awesome (even if the time change killed me and I fell asleep during some of it).
All in all, I shopped, gambled on the money wheel with my Director of Engineering's money (and came very close to winning $400.00), and spent quality time sleeping and with B and B. Do I want to go back - hell yes!!!
