Festival #2
Another festival came to town. This one was a huge celebration of the town in which I live - Celebrate Fairfax. Complete with live music, vendors, cotton candy, carnival, carniees, and funnel cake, oooh and fireworks, good times were to be had by all. I went with Michelle on Friday night - we watched Collective Soul - she had funnel cake, I had a corn dog and a little beer. We walked around to all the crafters - I saw tons of jewelry that I wanted and just saw what carnival rides were avaiable. I went back on Saturday by myself (with the world's worst sore throat) and got there in time to see Sister Hazel. Next thing I know they are singing Champagne High and I have to call Amanda Dinkel because I know how much she loves that song. Then I got funnel cake and walked around to get lots of free stuff - every booth had some spin the wheels. Besides people selling things, there were lots of businesses promoting their product and giving out information. Stopped and bought my mom and I some pearls - me for fun, her for her birthday. Then I went to sit and wait for Sugar Ray. While I was there I listened to the band that was playing called Junk Food (the place had five different stages spread out through the fair - each one had a different theme to it and local bands performed). I really liked the music so I bought the CDs they had for sale. Then met up with Chris and his friends Ten and Molly. We watched cutie pie Mark McGrath and the rest of Sugar Ray perform. THen we wandered around eating all the carnival junk food (well not me because my throat was on fire by this time) and then headied to the karaoke stage. That's right - karaoke and do you think I could pass that down? Nope. So I signed up to do it against better judgemetn. And we started to watch and make fun of the teeny boppers who were singing along to Michelle Branch and whoever else is big these days. I watched a girl perform the hell out of Barbie Girl and I mean - she had dance moves here and there and everywehre to go with it. THen my favorite came on - I am forgetting his name, but he was Asian and he was singing Barry Manilow's Copa Cobana. And oh boy - was i on the ground laughing and coughing because he was good! It was like wathcing a Pierre hit the stage - and he had all the wiggles and giggles and wow - you just had to be there. Then shortly after, it was me singing of course my showstopper All That Jazz. And did I kill my voice? You betcha. Granted that wasn't why I eneded up with tonsillitus in the first place, but that probably didn't help the matter any at all either. But still people busted into thunderous applause. Oh and Chris won a purple monkey.
