Vacation by Myself
Technically, it wasn't a complete vacation by myself, but I count a couple of weekends ago when I went to Milwaukee as fulfilling my goal to vacation by myself. I flew by myself for the first time. Made it to the airport with plenty of time, got through security and to the right gate all on my own. Set up a shuttle to the Hyatt Regency Milwaukee all by myself. Checked into my hotel room booked under my OWN name, then met up with Bri where we got ready for the wedding and took a cab to the church. The ceremony was beautiful, Ashley looked like the typical beautiful bride, the bridesmaids looked great, and I got to see people I haven't seen in awhile. We then went to the reception where some good laughs were had by all. IT was strange to see Matt and Tammi as the married couple, and Jolly and MOlly as the engaged couple, and just kind of strange overall. To picture it, we are all grown up and most of them stay in contact and see each other every toher weekend or so. Whereas I am further away, kind of out of the circl a bit, and while I enjoy being the friend in Fairfax, VA, I wish I were closer. It was good to see Bri again - I miss the breakfasts we used to have, the fun days in class, and just hanging out. She is the funniest person I know and I couldn't have picked a better person to be my date :) It stunk that I was sick all weekend but it didn't stop me from going to brunch with the girls, then going to the brewy with Amanda, Tim, and Amanda's brother Jeff. After getting dropped back off at the hotel, I made reservations for dinner int he revolving restaurant in the hotel. Decided to splurge a little. Eating alone is a very brave thing to do especially when people only go to nice restauarants to celebrate a special occasion. THe people were very nice to me when they found out I was a member of the Hyatt family. SO they took really good care of me. THe meal itself wasnt' as enjoyable as it could have been, but dessert that I took to my room for later was delicious. The view was incredible - MIlwaukee looks better at night I think. I especially enjoyed the seagulls and pigeons that were outside. One was sleeping all by himeself and another pair was fivghting and diving at each other - it was hilarious, although I thought the one was going to kill the other when he got a hold of the others head. Went to sleep shortly after that - as I said I was sick. Then I took the shuttle back to the airpoirt, got something to eat while I waited, and flew back with a not so long layover at Detroit and went back to my new home. Next time - I want a nice sunny beach and a cabana boy to go with it.
